Karen Griggs, English and linguistics, has been
appointed to a three-year term on the Bureau of Water and Resource
Regulation Advisory Council by former Gov. Joe Kernan.
In the omnibus budget bill passed by Congress in November, IPFW
became the recipient of a $150,000 grant for improvements
to its dental education programs. U.S. Rep. Mark Souder
shepherded the appropriation through the legislative process.
The money will be used to upgrade two dental laboratories with
advanced digital equipment. Elaine Foley, director
of dental hygiene, noted the grant will allow IPFW to continue
to graduate very well trained people into the workforce. “The
dental hygiene and dental assisting programs are rated the best
in Indiana, and this will keep us the best,” Foley said.
The Institute for Human Rights hosted its inaugural annual conference
Dec. 10-11 at the Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce, with the theme
“Guantanamo Bay and the Judicial Treatment of Aliens.” The conference
featured opening remarks from the director of the institute, Clark
Butler, philosophy. The keynote address, “Breaking the
Tradition: The Case for the 640 Detainees in Guantanamo,” was
presented by David Rudenstine, dean of the Benjamin N. Cardozo
Law School, Yeshiva University, New York City.
