James Cameron

Of all his prized possessions, James Cameron most cherishes a letter he received on Feb. 3, 1993. The letter granted a pardon and a public apology from the State of Indiana for a conviction 62 years before. Cameron (left) wrote an autobiographical account surrounding the lynching of two African-American men in Marion in 1930. Cameron and IU historian James Madison both chose the chilling photograph at the lynching tree, taken by Lawrence Beitler, on their book covers.
