| D. Christopher Brooks, a graduate student and Ph.D. candidate in political science at Indiana University, has been awarded a K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award for 2001.
The Cross Award recognizes graduate students who are committed to developing academic and civic responsibility in themselves and others. Any graduate student planning a higher education career in any academic field is eligible.
Nominees must demonstrate leadership ability or potential for exercising leadership in teaching and learning, with a strong commitment to academic and civic responsibility. They also must demonstrate leadership or potential leadership in the development of others as leaders, scholars and citizens.
This award, in its third year, is funded through the American Association for Higher Education (AAHE) and its Preparing Future Faculty National Office, by K. Patricia Cross, professor of higher education emerita at the University of California-Berkeley.
Cross is a long-time leader in higher education. An administrator, author, researcher and teacher, she has been named twice as one of the most important leaders in higher education by Change magazine.
