IUPUI to upgrade recycling with help from $50,000 grant
By Rich Schneider
IUPUI has received a $50,000 recycling grant that will be used to upgrade the current recycling program and educate and engage faculty, staff and students in campus recycling activities and environmental stewardship.

Awarded by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management’s (IDEM) Indiana Recycling and Household Hazardous Waste Grant Program, the grant award will be managed through Campus Facility Services and Environmental Health and Safety. The funds will be used to purchase recycling equipment to enhance and improve the current recycling program, to promote recycling education and awareness, and to educate and engage faculty, staff, and students by encouraging their participation in recycling and environmental stewardship.

Current IUPUI organizations involved in recycling include Campus Facility Services, Environmental Health and Safety, Center for Earth and Environmental Science, the Office of Housing and Residence Life, Staff Council, Campus and Community Life and various student groups. Ray’s Trash Incorporated, the waste management provider for campus, will additionally serve on the committee as a community liaison.

Interested faculty, staff and students are sought to serve on recycling initiative committees concerning education and advertising.
