Lord to direct IUN’s SPEA program

Lord

George Lord, formerly the dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Grambling (La.) State University, is the new director of IU Northwest’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs program. He is also a full professor within the school’s graduate faculty.

Lord was a professor of sociology and dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Grambling (La.) State University and during his tenure, led a school with 11 departments and 125 faculty members in humanities, social sciences and fine arts. Among his accomplishments were increased enrollments and participation in two accreditation reviews. He also established a Black Heritage Institute and a Center for Writing Excellence.

Prior to that, he was chair of the Department of Criminology, Sociology, Social Work and Geography at Arkansas State University. There, he established a new Center for Social Research with the capability to conduct both qualitative and quantitative research.

“The work that SPEA does in the community was of high interest to me because throughout my career in higher education I have had a strong focus in this area. Also, the university’s Shared Vision strategic planning process is moving in the direction I feel I can have an impact. I saw how very clearly and easily I could fit into this process and be successful,” Lord said.
