The IUB Dean of Faculties Office recently announced the names of faculty to be honored at spring receptions.
Named as 2004 Chancellor’s Professors are Raymond DeMallie,
anthropology; Michael Morgan, Department of Religious Studies,
and Rex Stockton, Department of Counseling and Educational
Psychology. A reception for the three new named professors
is scheduled March 24 at 4 p.m. at the University Club of
the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU).
The annual Tracy M. Sonneborn Award winner is sociologist Pamela Barnhouse Walters, who will present a lecture April 8 at 4 p.m. in the Frangipani Room of the Indiana Memorial Union. A reception will follow at the University Club of the IMU. The Sonneborn Award, initiated in 1985 by the Office of the Dean of Faculties, honors a faculty member who achieves special distinction as a teacher and as a scholar or artist.
Recipients of Distinguished Service Awards for 2004 are Tony Mobley, emeritus dean of the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, and Carl Ziegler, director of the Collins Living-Learning Center. A reception in their honor is set for 4 p.m. April 30 at the Hoosier Room at Assembly Hall These annual awards recognize distinguished service to the university, a profession, discipline or to the public and are intended to recognize service in the same way that other awards recognize distinguished teaching.
2003 Distinguished Service Award winners were Bill Perkins, an emeritus professor of information systems and decision sciences; and Alvin Rosenfeld, professor of English and founder of the Jewish Studies Program at IU. They were honored, along with Abhijit Basu, professor of geological sciences and recipient of the Herman B Wells Professorship, at a reception last September.
