IUPUI Faculty, staff honored with Diversity Awards at IUPUI Taylor Symposium

Agbor-Baiyee

Wilson

William Agbor-Baiyee, School of Medicine; Regina Turner, research associate at University College; and Sherree Wilson, director for multicultural professional development at the Office for Professional Development, received Excellence in Diversity Awards for their individual efforts in increasing recruitment and retention of African-American and Hispanic faculty, staff and students, at the 15th annual Joseph Taylor Symposium earlier this month at IUPUI.

Agbor-Baiyee was honored for his leadership as director of the Master of Science in Medical Science program, the medical student pre-matriculation program and the Indiana Area Health Education Center, which seeks to improve the distribution and diversity of health-care professionals in medically underserved areas.

Wilson was cited for her promotion of multicultural teaching and learning through workshops and symposia, and through the development of the Multicultural Classroom Resource Guide (see Web mastery, IU Home Pages, Jan. 30, http://homepages.indiana.edu/013004/text/webmastery.shtml).

Turner was praised for her efforts to include multi-culturalism in the work of the Faculty Learning Communities and for convening the “Young, Gifted and Black” monthly group meetings.

The organizational award was presented to the IUPUI Office of Campus and Community Life, directed by Michelle Verduzco.
