| IU Bloomington senior Philip Roessler of Middletown, Md., is a member of the 12th annual USA TODAY All-USA College Academic First Team. He is one of 20 students so honored by the newspaper for intellectual achievement and leadership. All members of the first team receive a $2,500 cash award and were featured in the Feb. 15 edition of the newspaper. Roessler is a political science major and co-founder of Outreach Kenya Development Volunteers, an AIDS education and outreach organization.
IUPUI freshman Ian Osborne is one of 14 college students from schools including Vanderbilt, Stanford, St. John’s and UCLA who competed in mid-February in the Hollywood Squares’ Annual College Tournament. Osborne, a journalism major from Plainfield, won his match, taking home a grand total of $11,000.
Five IU professors have been selected as Fulbright Scholars. They are: Yvette Alex-Assensoh, assistant professor of political science, IUB; Randall Baker, professor and director of international programs in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, IUB; Milagros Rivera-Sanchez, associate professor of telecommunications, IUB; Marc Rodwin, associate professor of public and environmental affairs, IUB; and Gerald Houseman, professor emeritus of political science, IPFW.
Military historian Russell Weigley has received the Lincoln Prize for A Great Civil War: A Military and Political History, 1861-1865, published by the IU Press.
