‘Discovering Indiana Women’s Voices’

The Indiana Women’s History Archives, Inc., partnering with the Indiana Historical Society and the Indiana Commission for Women, is sponsoring a conference dedicated to the history of women in Indiana Saturday, March 10.

History relating to all aspects of women’s lives will be explored, including home and family, careers, honors, challenges and contributions to Indiana history and culture. Keynote speaker is Jan Shipps, a professor emerita of history at IUPUI. Conference chair is Marianne Wokeck, associate professor of history and of women’s studies at IUPUI. Conference workshops will address searching for data on women, collecting and preserving women’s history and instruction on conducting oral history interviews, and using genealogical records to trace women’s history.

An inter-generational discussion between women who have made their mark in the 20th century and future leaders of the 21st century will be led by the Hon. Betty Barteau, a former court of appeals judge who has recently returned to the state following two years in Moscow, where she helped develop a new Russian court system.

For information, call Beth Van Vorst at 317-253-9816 or E-mail bvanvorst@iquest.net.
