The project, dubbed Friends for Life, will involve collecting blood samples from women—some who have had breast cancer and some who have not—to identify genetic changes that may predispose a woman to breast cancer.

Volunteers are needed to assist with consent forms, questionnaires and to draw blood the day of the Race for the Cure. Volunteers can work the entire day or sign up for shifts from 6:30 a.m.-11 a.m. or 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Indiana Cancer Pavilion.

Researchers plan to draw blood from about 1,000 women that day. To successfully conduct a study of this size, organizers are seeking at least 80 volunteers. Volunteers of all skill levels are needed for the Cancer Pavilion efforts and to staff a booth at the race recruiting individuals for the blood draw.
