World Trade Center site architect visits IUB
Photos by Chris Meyer

Libeskind

On March 1, architect Daniel Libeskind addressed a capacity crowd at IUB’s Whittenberger Auditorium in the Indiana Memorial Union.

When completed, Libeskind’s Freedom Tower, which will be erected on the site of what was once the World Trade Center in New York City, will rise 1,776 feet into the sky, making it the tallest building in the world. The design of the Freedom Tower, said Libeskind, resembles the Statue of Liberty’s upheld torch. Libeskind, who was born in Poland to Holocaust survivors, said that his design was, in part, inspired by his memories of arriving in America by ship in 1946.
