| The National Academy of Engineering has elected geologist Haydn Murray, a former chair of the Department of Geology and professor emeritus of geological sciences, to its ranks. He was cited for his pioneering work on the mineralogy and industrial applications of clays and becomes IU’s first elected member. In 2001, he established the Applied Clay Mineralogy Chair at IUB, which will be assumed by mineralogist David Bish of Los Alamos National Laboratory in August.
