Information technology

Janet Davidson, interim director of extended learning at IU East, is beaming a little at the thought of having a computer lab dedicated to non-credit courses. Extended learning recently has become a Microsoft Office User Specialist Certification Program (MOUS) certification testing site.

Information technology has taken a giant step forward at IU East with enhanced computer facilities at Hayes Hall to better serve student needs. Two computer labs were expanded; one contains 37 work stations and a color printer to allow independent work by students. The other, a specialized computer lab for students in advanced computer science and management information systems, accommodates non-traditional software for which students in these programs must become knowledgeable. Also added to the campus resources was a small computer lab dedicated to use by the Division of Extended Learning. Janet Davidson, interim director, said that the computer classroom will make it possible for the campus to offer non-credit courses at all times of the day—even at peak times for credit courses. New file servers, wiring and communication equipment have placed Hayes Hall on the cutting edge of IT delivery.
