Herman B Wells is pictured in center foreground on his way to his inauguration as the 11th president of Indiana University. William Lowe Bryan (president of IU from 1902-1937) is walking directly behind Wells. To Wells’ left is Henry F. Shricker (governor of Indiana, 1937-1941). Wells was acting president 1937-1938, president from 1938-1962 and interim president in 1968. Under his presidency, IU widened its scope to a more global perspective. He served as university chancellor from 1962 until his death on March 18, 2000. For more on Wells, go to:
