If these IUPUI students got a tan during spring break last month, it’s only because the florescent lights were bright at the John Hope Elementary School in Atlanta, Ga., where they built a reading loft and mural garden. They also worked at the Atlanta Community Food Bank in the first offering of IUPUI’s Alternative Spring Break, sponsored by the Office of Campus and Community Life and the Center for Service and Learning. Hands On Atlanta created the students’ schedule, which included trips to the zoo and the Martin Luther King Jr. Center.
