What has been known in its planning
stages as the Multidisciplinary
Science Building Phase I will be named Simon Hall after
its benefactors, and a ceremonial groundbreaking is planned
June 3 in Bloomington. In Indianapolis, one research team
at the School of Medicine is investigating the efficacy of
"tailor-made" breast cancer treatments,
while another has identified a gene with a statistical link
to the disease of alcoholism.
Guggenheims and creative
capital
Four Bloomington faculty have
received prestigious Guggenheim
Fellowships, and five at the Herron School of Art have
been awarded inaugural Efroymson
Contemporary Arts Fellowships.
More than $248 million in gifts
and grants in the last fiscal year placed IU among the top
1.5 percent of all colleges and universities in the nation
in the amount of support it receives from the private sector
