| The Indiana University School of Continuing Studies (SCS) has received two national awards from the University Continuing Education Association—a Distinguished Course Award and a Silver Award of Excellence for Strategic Marketing.
The Distinguished Course Award was presented to the SCS Independent Study Program for the high school course, Spanish 12S Level I: Second Semester. Written by Karen Hunsicker, foreign language department chair at Bloomington High School South, and edited by Millicent Elliott and Aurora Zayas Jurasinski, the course covers five major areas: communication, cultures, connections, comparisons and communities.
“This is the 53rd award the University Continuing Education Association has given to Independent Study Program courses,” said Larry Onesti, director of the SCS Office of Academic Programs. “We are proud to continue to offer quality courses and instruction to students at a distance.”
A Silver Award of Excellence went to the SCS Office of Marketing and Communication for the strategic marketing plan that launched Indiana University High School (IUHS), a program that allows students to complete their high school diploma entirely at a distance.
Marketing director Joann A. Brown and educational outreach coordinator Irene Fox authored the strategic marketing plan. Within the first year of its fall 1999 launch, Indiana University High School enrolled more than 280 students, and currently, more than 350 students are working toward their IUHS diploma.
“These awards,” said SCS Dean Jeremy Dunning, “demonstrate the School of Continuing Studies’ ongoing commitment to providing students with the very best in lifelong learning.”
