Tributes and appointments--IU East

Barton-Kriese

Osborne

Paul Barton-Kriese, political science, recently chaired six panels at the National Association for African American Studies national conference in Houston, Texas. He also co-presented a paper with Randall Osborne, psychology, at the Academic Chairpersons Conference in Orlando, Fla. Their topic was “Thin-Chair-Pair: Mentoring the Delivery of Distance Technology Courses.”

Deborah May, nursing, was a presenter at the sixth annual International Conference on Human Understanding, held in March in Miami, Fla. May’s topic was self-induced water intoxication.

A recipient of the IU School of Nursing 2001 Clinical Excellence Alumni Award is Mary Folkerth, nursing. The award acknowledges significant contributions to the nursing profession and recognizes excellent distinction that the recipient brings to the School of Nursing. In addition, the Clinical Excellence Alumni Award is based on outstanding credentials and loyal commitment to the health-care profession and the School of Nursing. The award was presented on April 21.

 
Ohio University Press is the publisher of a new book by Alisa Clapp-Itnyre, English. The title is Angelic Airs/Subversive Songs: Music as Cultural Discourse in the Victorian Novel and Society. The book is based on her dissertation and explores the ways Victorian writers Elizabeth Gaskell, George Eliot and Thomas Hardy used popular 19th-century music in their novels. In recognition of her study of Hardy’s poetry and the folk song revival, she will be attending a conference in London in July. She has received an IU Overseas Conference Fund grant to help pay for the trip

At the annual Computers in Libraries Conference in March in Washington, D.C., Steve Reynolds, vice chancellor for information technology, presented a paper. The title was "Integrating and Partnering in Universities: Developing a Plan for Integrated Information Resources and Services"” The paper encompassed the political, logistical and technical issues involved in integrating library services and computing services.
