Tributes and appointments--IU Kokomo

Dorothy Walker, nursing, was the recipient of a Sagamore of the Wabash designation during her retirement reception in January. She was honored by Indiana Gov. Frank O’Bannon for her 27-year career at the Kokomo campus. A friend, Laura Gaskill, also established a scholarship in Walker’s name.

Niranjan Pati, professor of management at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, has been named the new dean IU Kokomo’s School of Business and will assume his duties in July. He will bring two decades of academic and business experience to the campus. While at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, he has served as chairperson for the Department of Management. He has been with the university since 1990.

The seven-year study of the water parasite Cryptosporidium parvum has been completed by Christian Chauret, biology. He plans to have his findings published in a pair of leading professional journals, Water Research and Applied Environmental Microbiology.

Kathy Parkinson, (above left) economics, and Margo Sorgman, education, received the Distinguished Teacher Award from the Indiana Council for the Social Studies, Inc., on March 29. They have been singled out for their innovative economic education courses for area public school teachers and college students. Their team-taught "Survey of Economics" is offered in the summer to area teachers.
