Reid Hospital of Richmond is donating $25,000, through its Social Responsibility Program, to help provide the IU East School of Nursing with funds to improve its clinical laboratory. Reid’s Social Responsibility Program allows the hospital to support health-related projects and organizations whose missions are either intertwined or consistent with the hospital’s mission.
“IU East is an organization that is part of the core and the fabric of the community,” said Barry McDowell, president of Reid Hospital. “The community is enriched and helped by the presence of IU East. As a fellow community citizen, we want to be publicly and tangibly supportive.”
The money is being donated to IU East’s “Campaign for Community” and will be directed toward nursing clinical laboratory updates.
“I am excited about the continued partnership that we have with Reid Hospital and Health Care Services,” said Karen Clark, dean of the School of Nursing. “Together, we positively impact the health of our community and support quality health care for citizens of our region,” Clark said.
The money donated to the capital campaign will be used to purchase needed items such as beds, mannequins and up-to-date equipment. New money for the program will help provide an effective way to simulate critical care, obstetric and pediatric scenarios.
Both the number and high quality of IU East nursing graduates have been a real benefit to Reid. The hospital hires an average of four nursing graduates per year.
