Searching the heavens
|
|
Nothing fascinates more than a view of the heavens, and while IUB’s Kirkwood Observatory may be the most well-known place to star gaze in Indiana, the IU Kokomo Observatory also features public viewing nights for star-struck spectators. Rick Steldt, professor of physics on the Kokomo campus, poses with the new Meade LX200GPS telescope installed last fall at the IU Kokomo Observatory. On the New Albany campus last month, the natural sciences partnered with IU Southeast musicians for a multi-media performance of Gustav Holst’s The Planets, featuring a video presentation by IUS Astronomical Society adviser Gerald Ruth. Children attending the performance had a chance to walk through an inflatable planetarium in the Ogle Center lobby during intermission. When the New Albany campus officially opens its Deep Sky Observatory next fall, more celestial music will be in the making.
