IU nixes 12-, 15-passenger van use

Effective April 17, IU has banned the use of 12- and 15-passenger vans.

According to personnel at the IU Office of Risk Management (ORM), the decision not to rent, lease, borrow, or drive the vans on university business is based partly on a recent U.S. Department of Transportation study that found a higher rollover propensity than other standard forms of transportation. The ban was issued for the safety and protection of students, faculty, staff and others using the roadways. According to ORM, minivans and small buses will still be options for official university road travel for multiple transport.
