Inheritance

of 2003 inherited an obligation to be generous, explained IU Interim
President Gerald Bepko at Bloomington’s May commencement, the first
of eight at IU campuses throughout the state. That inheritance springs
from the university’s first commencement, held in 1830, when abolitionist
James Rollins and three other notable men received IU degrees. Read
Bepko’s remarks and those of IUB commencement speaker Sen. Richard
Lugar.
