IUPUI connections to Black Expo includes Herron group called Spectrum
IUPUI will be involved in a number of Indiana Black Expo events, from an art exhibit by a group of minority Herron School of Art and Design students to Children’s Day to the second annual Race Against Prostate Cancer. The race is tomorrow (July 10) and Black Expo continues through July 18.

Spectrum, a group of minority students at IU’s Herron School of Art and Design, will exhibit their artwork at a juried show that will be on display at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis July 15-18. The exhibit is a high-profile event for the group, as it will run alongside exhibitions from the Eiteljorg Museum and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. The opening will take place from 6-8 p.m. Thursday (July 15) in the Wabash Ballroom Corridor of the Indiana Convention Center. The student artists, along with Vance Farrow, Spectrum faculty adviser and assistant professor of foundation studies at Herron, will be on hand to talk about and sell their paintings, drawings, sculptures and photographs. The show will remain on display July 16 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; July 17 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and July 18 from noon to 8 p.m.

Spectrum is an extension of the Shared Heritage Scholarship Fund at Herron. Spectrum’s mission is to offer creative outlets and artistic, emotional, and academic support for those typically underrepresented ethnic minority art students at Herron. On a broader scale, Spectrum strives to promote multiculturalism as a whole, acknowledging the presence of many diverse cultures and bringing that diversity to the forefront of Herron’s art community.

The IUPUI School of Science’s “Phun with Physics” will entertain children on Children’s Day, which is scheduled 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday (July 12) at the RCA Dome. Jinx, IUPUI’s Jaguars mascot, will be there as well.

IUPUI is partnering with the Indiana Black Expo in the Race Against Prostate Cancer tomorrow (July 10). “Team Jaguars” is entered in the second annual race, which includes a 5K run and walk, originating at the Indiana War Memorial in downtown Indianapolis.

IUPUI’s booth will offer information about the campus to thousands of visitors. The booth will be located in Hall C at the convention center, July 16-18.
