Many faculty and staff, including IU First Lady Karen Herbert, rely on their Recreational Sports personal trainers for guidance to optimize their exercise routines.

"Our mission is to connect, inform and inspire people to lead active, healthy lifestyles. By showcasing our colleagues living active lifestyles, we hope to increase awareness and motivate more faculty and staff to enjoy and reap the benefits of exercise and recreational sports programs on campus."

Kimberly Ruff, director of marketing and sponsorship at the Division of Recreational Sports on the Bloomington campus, which produced the 2005-2006 wall calendar.

Faculty and staff at IU Bloomington have received an Active Lifestyle Calendar featuring their colleagues, including Karen Herbert, wife of IU President Adam Herbert, working out or playing sports at the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) and at the Student Recreational Sports Center (SRSC).

The calendar, which is supported by IUB Residential Program Services, the IU Credit Union, the IU School of Music and IU Intercollegiate Athletics, includes key academic calendar dates, dates of the music school's concerts and key IUB men's and women's athletic events. There is also information on recreational sports programs and registration dates that are of interest to faculty and staff.

The calendar was mailed to more than 7,000 faculty and staff at IUB, including new personnel who usually arrive on campus in July and early August. Copies are also available at the member services booths at HPER and at the SRSC, while stocks last.

"This calendar will prove to be a very informative and useful tool for faculty and staff," said Ruff. "Through the Campus Recreational Sports Advisory Committee, we learned that many faculty and staff have expressed interest in a wall calendar with key IUB dates. We believe that this combined promotional and information piece will be well received."

The Division of Recreational Sports provides sports and fitness services for students, faculty, staff and the public to encourage active, healthy lifestyles and enhance a sense of community. The Division strives to be the most comprehensive, inclusive and progressive Recreational Sports program in the country.
