The IPFW Choral Union is looking for new members who love to sing. A new community chorus is forming this fall under the direction of Todd Prickett, director of choral studies at IPFW. The Choral Union will be open to singers of all ages and backgrounds, whether choral music is a vocation or an avocation. The IPFW Choral Union will rehearse on Monday evenings at IPFW from 7:30-9:30 p.m. and several concerts will be performed throughout the year, including the upcoming IPFW Holiday Concert at the Scottish Rite on Sunday, Dec. 4. Informal placement auditions will be held before the first rehearsal on Monday, Aug. 22, starting at 6 p.m., to determine in which section the singers will be placed. Beginning this fall, the choir will have one weekly rehearsal on Monday evenings from 7:30-9:30 p.m. in the Classroom-Medical Building, Room 35C, on the IPFW Campus. The Choral Union will sing various choral masterworks as well as other, shorter pieces. The choral literature will be selected from diverse historical periods and a wide variety of musical styles. Plans to collaborate with IPFW's Community Orchestra, Community Band and other choirs will be explored. Prickett has a great deal of experience conducting community groups; within the last several years, he conducted the Lenawee Community Chorus in Adrian, Mich., the Steiner Chorale (a semi-professional choir in Lansing, Mich.) and multiple church choirs. He particularly enjoys the maturity and wealth of life experience found in adult voices. Participation will be offered on an optional credit or non-credit basis, ideal for both students and community members. All interested individuals are encouraged to E-mail prickett@ipfw.edu or call 260-481-6811 for more information. |
