Supreme Court justice to give keynote address at IUPUI law dedication Sept. 21

The $36 million Lawrence W. Inlow Hall, 530 W. New York St., was completed this spring. Located on the southeastern edge of the IUPUI campus, Inlow Hall houses the law school and the Ruth Lilly Law Library.

"We are very pleased that Justice Anthony Kennedy has accepted our invitation to speak at the law school's dedication," IU School of Law Dean Norman Lefstein said. "Not only is he an outstanding jurist, but he also has a deep interest and commitment to legal education. Prior to becoming a judge, Justice Kennedy served as an adjunct professor at the law school in his hometown."

President Ronald Reagan nominated Kennedy for the Supreme Court in 1987. U.S. Senate members confirmed his appointment in February 1988. Prior to his appointment to the nation's highest court, Kennedy, a California native, practiced law in California, taught at McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific, and served 12 years on the United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Other special guests expected to attend the dedication ceremony include representatives of law schools in China, France and Australia.
