Fast facts
• More than 80 percent of the Indiana population lives within a 50-mile radius of one of the eight campuses of IU.

• Jane Pauley, whose syndicated afternoon TV show debuts Aug. 30, is an IU alumna. Feisal Amin Istrabadi, who assumed the Iraqi ambassadorship to the United Nations this week, has both a chemistry degree and a law degree from IU.

• Children, parents and employees were on hand when the IUPUI Center for Young Children christened its new 40-passenger shuttle bus in May, using a jug of milk. The bus, which is decked out in a baby Jaguar painting and paw prints (to honor the Indianapolis campus’ mascot), is equipped with seat belts and built-in car seats for toddlers.
