Douglas Engelbart, the inventor of the computer mouse, will be making a presentation on the IU East campus at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the Vivian Auditorium on the Richmond campus.
He will be discussing his Hyperscope project, one he has been working on for 17 years toward augmenting human capabilities through the use of technology. Collective IQ, Networked Improvement Communities and Dynamic Knowledge Repositories are tools he’s created to support Hyperscope.
Engelbart paired up with IU East after meeting with Ange Cooksey, a lecturer in the humanities on the campus. They discussed a collaboration that would incorporate Engelbart’s latest strategies into her philosophy courses.
"Engelbart’s life-long dream is to cultivate the relationship between minds and machines in pursuit of better strategies to communicate, collaborate and solve compelling human problems," explained Cooksey. "It has been an awesome experience for my students and me to be a part of furthering that dream."
He is currently the director of Bootstrap Institute, an organization he formed in Palo Alto, Calif. He is also a part-time visiting scholar at Stanford University.
Admission to the lecture is free. For more information, contact the IU East Office of the Vice Chancellor for Information Technology at 765-973-8555.
