IUB Physical Plant’s Kenny Wagner was one of the craftsmen involved in a masonry project next to the newly renovated Well House earlier this fall. IU hired its first groundskeeper in 1899, and during the next 35 years, a program of planting native trees i
n the Old Crescent area was part of the plan to preserve the campus’ woodland character. The credit in keeping that character alive is due, in part, to the men and women of Physical Plant’s Campus Division, which provides the grounds maintenance and lands
caping for some 2,100 acres of campus space. When President William Lowe Bryan retired in 1937, the campus covered a mere 136 acres.
