IUPUI, IFD join forces | |

Indianapolis Fire Chief Louis Dezelan and union fire chief Tom Hanifee have developed a great way to spark the desire to learn in Indianapolis firefighters—give them credit for on-the-job training.
The two have partnered with IUPUI to allow firefighters to earn college credit after they complete a course required of all new recruits. Among the IUPUI-based schools taking part in the 22-week program are SPEA, Allied Health, General Studies and Physica l Education. The schools will award credit for training in emergency medical training, handling hazardous materials, fire suppression, physical education and diversity. Dezelan hopes the program will inspire Indianapolis firefighters to continue their college educations. | |
