About Home Pages
Mission statement: IU Home Pages exists to inform and strengthen
communication among the faculty and staff on all eight Indiana University
campuses. It is part of an ongoing effort to increase awareness of the
value of an IU education, the esteem of the IU workplace, IU faculty and
staff excellence, and the positive effects the Indiana University
campuses have on their local communities, the state, the nation and the
world.
Background: IU Home Pages, a bi-weekly newspaper for faculty and
staff on the eight campuses of Indiana University,
begins its fifth year of
publication on line and in print with the 2000-2001
fall semester. Some
editorial and photographic coverage is provided by
Media Relations,
External Relations and Community Relations staffs on
all campuses.
IU Home Pages was launched the fall semester of 1996 by
IU's Office
of Public Affairs and Government Relations and replaced
the former IU
Newspaper. Home Pages is distributed to 17,000
employees of the
university in print form and is read on line by
approximately 10,000
readers a month.
Awards: IU Home Pages received the 1997 Clarion Award from the
national Association for Women in Communications (AWC)
for most
improved non-profit internal newsletter. The AWC
awarded three
Clarion Awards to IU Home Pages in 1998 for best
non-profit internal
newsletter; best non-profit on-line publication and
best ongoing public
relations campaign.
In 1999, Home Pages received the Clarion Award for best
on-line,
non-profit publication, and the Council for the
Advancement and
Support of Education (CASE) awarded a bronze medal in the
communications category of internal periodicals in its
annual Circle of
Excellence competition.
