Indy's inner circle
|
When Mayor Bart Peterson took office in January, he looked for excellent people to help him make good his campaign pledge to make Indianapolis a world-class city. IUPUI alumni were at the top of the list.
Jerry Barker, a 1978 graduate of the School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA), was named Indianapolis Chief of Police. Louis Dezelan, a 1977 SPEA grad, was named Indianapolis Fire Chief.
Other IUPUI graduates were quickly tapped to fill key roles in Peterson’s administration. Seven law school graduates were appointed to high-level positions. The names and positions of the seven and their years of graduation:
• Keira Amstutz, assistant deputy mayor, 1995
• Steve Campbell, communications director, Mayor’s Office, 1997
