‘Virtual’ patients test nursing skills

Patients treated by students in Pam Jeffries’ nursing classes are a little unique—they’re on line. Jeffries, herself a graduate of the School of Nursing at IUPUI, uses CD-ROMs to teach basic nursing procedures through a wide range of nursing challenges. O ne, for example, simulates performing an EKG, another focuses on medication.

The technology-based effort is gaining widespread use throughout the country, integrating technology into training 21st-century nurses in one more way.
