The IUCAT’s meow—IUCAT has nothing, absolutely
nothing, to do with Halloween.
But now that we’ve got your attention: our
colleague Eric Bartheld tells us that IU Libraries has launched
a new online service that enables request for delivery of university-owned
book to any campus library, regardless of the book’s location
within Indiana University. You can make the request simply by
clicking a button when reviewing the book’s record in IUCAT,
the libraries’ online catalog. For example: You may request
that a book from IUB be delivered to IU Kokomo, a transfer formerly
accomplished through interlibrary loan. Or, in Bloomington,
you may request that a book from the Main Library be delivered
to the School of Education Library. The new service applies
only to books in the general circulating collection that are
not checked out to another user.
A few tips for this do-it-yourself free service.
• LOG IN to IUCAT. Run your searches
against ALL rather than an individual library or group. This
gives a better idea of what material is available for delivery.
• Click on the button for the “Request
Delivery” option and to select a pick-up library from the dropdown
menu.
• LOG OUT. Most material will be delivered
within four to seven working days. An E-mail will be sent when
the material has arrived.
