On a recent autumn day, the creek bed along the Jordan River near Dunn
Meadow was the perfect outdoor laboratory for IUB instructor Michelle
Metro-Roland (center) and lab students enrolled in "Physical Systems of
the Environment." Next Saturday, Oct. 28, the campus’ annual physics and
astronomy open house is planned at Swain Hall West, from 9 a.m. to 2
p.m. Watch for "The Physics of Halloween" at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in
Room 117, presented by physicists Ben Brabson and Rick Van Kooten. Be
ready to see huge smoke rings travel across the room, giant barrels
crushed by air, large sparks flying skyward and dill pickles glowing in
the dark (among other phenomena).
