Eberhart (left) and Worth
That’s not a watch on the table in front of Russell Eberhart, chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at IUPUI, and Dr. Robert Worth, a neurological surgeon at the IU Medical Center. It’s a device, called an actigraph, they’ve developed to monitor and record patient movement data in assessing certain neurological disorders, such as essential tremor and Parkinson’s disease. The two have collaborated on the development of a method and system which uses computational intelligence to measure tremor, giving physicians a picture of how the disorder changes over time and individual responses to medications. The patent was issued to IU’s Advanced Technology Research Institute, and Computelligence LLC has been formed to further develop applications.
