Happy birthday, IPFW!

Imagine the ultimate birthday party, complete with colorful balloons, juggling clowns, cake and candles, and—of course—all your favorite friends! To celebrate IPFW’s birthday, these touches and more were included in the kick-off event for the year-long 40th anniversary celebration Sept. 14.

The party included musical selections sung by local American Idol winners and dance music by the popular oldies band, Spike and the Bulldogs.

The highlight of the party was the unveiling and dedication of a new life-sized bronze mastodon statue—the campus mascot. Thanks to the generosity of STAR Financial Bank and IPFW alumni, the magnificent mastodon now looks over the plaza between Walb Union and Helmke Library.

There was still more to the party; a performance by The Capitol Steps, a comic political sketch group, opened the 2004-05 Omnibus Lecture Series. The troupe lambasted everyone in the political spotlight, living up to its reputation as an “equal opportunity offender.” Audience members then enjoyed cake donated by bakeries for the IPFW birthday.
