IPFW has established a variety of Centers of Excellence specifically designed to provide resources to northeast Indiana. One of the newest centers, the Community Research Institute, helps attract new businesses to the region by providing information about the areas economy, demographics and public finance. Other centers have excavated mastodon remains, provided training to mental-health professionals, educated farmers about local endangered species and helped engineers network and pool resources.
