New York City and Paris provided the medium of photography with
an abundance of subject matter and styles during the 20th century.
An exhibition of more than 50 masterworks, selected from the photography collection of Thomas Solley, director emeritus of the IU Art Museum in Bloomington, is on display at the Special Exhibitions Gallery through Dec. 19. The title is Cosmopolitan: New York and Paris.
Solley’s collection of photography reflects his eye for elegant, sophisticated images with an emotional or historical resonance.
The selection of images from Solley’s 500-plus collection, was made by Jeffrey Wolin, the Ruth N. Halls Professor of photography at IU’s Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Art.
Editor’s note: Pressure Points, an exhibition that features 54 prints from the collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and his family foundation, will also continue through Dec. 19.)
