• Historian Barbara Weinstein of the University of Maryland will present an Horizons of Knowledge Lecture Thursday, Nov. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Walnut Room of the Indiana Memorial Union, IU Bloomington. Her topic will be “Erasing and Erecting Boundaries: Can We Combine the ‘Indo’ and the ‘Afro’ in Latin American Postcolonial Studies?”

• Radio talk show host and author Tavis Smiley will present the annual Neal-Marshall SPEA Public Policy Lecture at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, in the atrium of the Willkie Auditorium, 150 N. Rose Ave., IU Bloomington. Smiley is an IU alumnus, a NAACP Image Award winner and was the keynote speaker at IUPUI’s 31st annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dinner in 2000.

• Prospective participants in the online seminar, “Scientists and Subjects: the Ethics of Research with Human Subjects,” sponsored by IU’s Poynter Center for the Study of Ethics and American Institutions, must complete an application form online no later than Dec. 19. The seminar runs from Jan. 19-March 14.
