| The African-American Culture Center on the Bloomington campus is hosting a pre-Kwanzaa celebration tomorrow (Dec. 8) at Wilkie Quad, 150 N. Rose Ave. The children’s celebration, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., will feature hair cutting and braiding, Swahili and Kwanzaa classes. A campus and community celebration is from 3-6 p.m.
It took 1,000 paratroopers to get Minnijean Brown-Trickey safely to class on her first full day at Central High School in Little Rock, Ark., on Sept. 25, 1957, and she became part of the Little Rock Nine, the group of students who desegregated the school following a U.S. Supreme Court ruling. Brown-Trickey will be the keynote speaker at the 32nd IUPUI Martin Luther King Jr. dinner Monday, Jan. 21.
