
| Dr. Ora Hirsch Pescovitz was appointed executive dean of research affairs of the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) in October. In that role, she oversees the basic and clinical research initiatives under way at the IUSM.
A nationally recognized pediatric endocrinologist, Pescovitz’ research interests are in the areas of growth and puberty. She is the Edwin Letzter Professor of pediatrics, professor of cellular and integrative physiology, and director of the Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology Program at IUSM.
She has received numerous grants from the National Institutes of Health, including a Research Career Development Award. In addition, she has received grants from the Riley Memorial Association, as well as from other organizations and institutions.
She is president of the Society for Pediatric Research, the world’s largest pediatric research organization, and has professional affiliations with the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Endocrine Society and the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society.
Before joining IU, Pescovitz, a graduate of Northwestern University Medical School, was a member of the faculty at the University of Minnesota. She completed her endocrinology research and subspecialty training at the National Institutes of Health, and her pediatric residency at the Children’s Hospital National Medical Center, Washington, D.C., and at the University of Minnesota Medical School.
