• Mark these occasions in your 2004 date book: Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be commemorated as an official holiday by IU on Monday, Jan. 19. IU’s Founders Day commemoration is Feb. 28 in Bloomington.

• Senior non-profit fund-raisers throughout the nation are optimistic about the charitable giving prospects this holiday season, thanks in large part to an improved economy, according to the biannual Philanthropic Giving Index, released earlier this week by the IU Center on Philanthropy. The results show the greatest six-month increase in confidence among professionals since the inception of the survey in 1998; the findings are in stark contrast to the previous report this summer that showed confidence dropping to an all-time low.
